Open loop -vs- Closed loop systems by: VOLANTE HEAT TRANSFER 1746 Rooster Tr. Lapeer, Mi 48446 ph:(810) 796-3313 fax:(810) 245-9367

OPEN LOOP:
An open loop system requires a well and a pond or area to discharge the water on your property. Our most popular unit requires 9-12 gpm and water quality within specs. Water quality is important for the heat exhanger in order to avoid scaling, corrosion, build up etc. Contact us for water testing procedures. Most townships allow open loop systems, but contact us for a list of those who don't. The open loop system costs less than the closed loop system to install. Maintenance: wash water filter wash air filters general cleaning of unit and condensate line
CLOSED LOOP: The closed loop system requires aprox. minimum of 30'x80' of moist, free area to bury the loop for a slinky. Standard trenches can run up to 300 feet in length. Trenches can be "L" shaped, "U" shaped etc, along the side of driveways etc. in order to find room on the lot. There is no need for a well or pond. The closed loop system costs more than the open loop to install. Vertical wells are used during the following conditions: heavily treed building site building site too small extremely dry soil conditions & don't want an open loop parking lot used for loop field.
The water circulates in a sealed loop with a non toxic antifreeze. Maintanance: wash air filters general cleaning of unit and condensate line
